Urban spaces should do more than function — they should inspire, support biodiversity, and connect people with nature. That’s the essence of great landscape design.
For 28 years, Dan Hutchinson, Landscape Architect at Stride Treglown, has shaped environments that blend plants, hard landscaping, and natural movement — creating spaces people truly enjoy. The challenge never loses its appeal.
The Met Office project was no exception. Designed in 2017, before Biodiversity Net Gain became standard, it required enhancing existing greenery by at least 10%. Returning years later, there’s always a question — has it thrived? Standing among the trees and birdsong, the answer is clear.
With support from the Met Office, its Biodiversity Working Group, and Devon Wildlife Trust, the team created a space that not only nurtures pollinators but supports local wildlife. The thriving pine trees and blooming meadows are proof that, with care, nature will always flourish.
